5. JODOROWSKY AND PSYCHOMAGIC

"Pay attention to yourself, be aware at all times of what you think, feel, want and do"
(G.I. Gurdjeff)

Here is a man who has been taught by some of the greatest masters. Mostly because he did everything he could to seek them out. Alejandro Jodorowky, a Chilean-born Russian who lives in Paris, is a director and film producer (he made the cult movie "El Topo"), creator of avant-garde theatrical shows, cartoonist, writer and tarot card reader. Above all however, he is the inventor of psycho magic. But what is psycho magic? Basically he learned paranormal techniques from several great magicians, psychics and healers, but instead of using these techniques to cure diseases and dysfunctions, he created a rationalized approach that helps patients to help themselves by becoming the "magician of themselves".

TAKE THE LEAD IN YOUR LIFE... AND IN YOUR DREAMS

If you read his stories you will be amazed. According to Jodorowsky, you should live real life as if it were a dream and live dreams as if they were real life. You should always remain transcendent, without being identified by your actions, and you should spend your days searching for any trace of the magic that Jodorowsky considers to be the true essence of life. Furthermore, you should try to take an active role in your dreams, becoming more self-aware without subjecting passively to the events projected by your unconscious mind. Jodorowsky revives and reproposes the theory of lucid dreaming, which means living "lucidly" in our dreams, so as to influence the events that take place in order to grow overnight.

EXTRAORDINARY ENCOUNTERS

Incredible but true. Jodorowsky's career has been marked by a series of extraordinary encounters with wizards, wise people and healers, not to mention countless men and women with incredible powers. For example the sorceress Pacha in Mexico City who has healed every kind of illness by performing actions with her bare hands while the patients perform yet other actions bordering on the absurd in order to recover completely. Or the daughter of Gurdjieff who tutored Jodorowsky on the wisdom of her great father during amorous liaisons. But what are the characteristics of psycho magic? And how can we cultivate these powers?

THE UNDERLYING CAUSE IS ALWAYS THE FAMILY

Jodorowsky reveals the characteristics of psycho magic during his seminars, and in particular, during free private tarot card reading sessions. If someone goes to see him with a particular problem, Jodorowsky will read the tarot cards and on the basis of this reading, will ask the person to perform one or more specific actions. At the time, these actions may seem irrational, but when completed, they will enable the person to resolve his problem. In actual fact, the tarot cards are just a gimmick that allow Jodorowsky to focus on the person in front of him and understand the root of the problem by looking deep into his soul. Jodorowsky believes that the underlying cause is always related to the family. Often, this can be traced back to our ancestors who have handed down the cause of the problem generation after generation. Since we are dealing with unconscious dynamics, the only way to act directly on our unconscious mind is to use magic, through actions that break free of any rigidity or logic of rational conscious thought.

THE PRICE OF FEELING GOOD

It is possible to become a psycho magician but it's not easy. You have to work hard, especially since you need to remain innocent, pure, self-controlled and disciplined in order not to lose the magic. Jodorowsky believes that the greatest danger for anyone wanting to get into magic is laziness. This also applies to anyone interested in healing. Jodorowsky states that the closest ally of sickness is the patient himself and in order to heal (and in general obtain anything we really want) we must be willing to pay a price that most patients are not willing to pay: not a price in monetary terms, but rather the price of performing an action that shatters stereotypes and habits which we are bound to. The same actions that led to the sickness in the first place, a teacher that tells us what we need to change to get in touch with the great Being of life.
